Qurbani in Yemen: A Moment of Joy and Dignity

On Eid al-Adha, a day marked by sacrifice, unity, and compassion, Pure Hands Australia carried out its Qurbani Meat Distribution in Marib, Yemen, bringing nourishment and dignity to families who have endured years of conflict and displacement.

This year’s distribution has a particular significance. As Yemen enters yet another year of humanitarian crisis, communities across Marib continue to face severe food shortages, economic instability, and daily uncertainty that comes with prolonged conflict. Yet, on June 6, 2025, the day of Eid, something different filled the air: the warmth of generosity, the joy of celebration, and the reminder that the ummah stands together.

The day began with our field teams preparing for distribution across IDP settlements and underserved neighbourhoods. For many families, especially those with children, widows, and the elderly, receiving fresh Qurbani meat is more than just a meal; it is a moment of shared humanity and a sign that they have not been forgotten.

This year’s effort provided 334 individuals with high-quality, Shariah-compliant meat sourced and distributed through a transparent process that our supporters have come to trust. Every stage of livestock procurement, slaughtering, cold-chain handling, and distribution— was carried out with care, dignity, and accountability. Our local teams, many of whom are affected by the crisis, worked tirelessly to ensure that every household received its share.

The stories that emerged throughout the day captured the heart of why this project is important. Mothers preparing a rare protein-rich meal for their children. Elderly fathers recalled how Eid traditions once filled their homes before conflict changed everything. Young orphans were smiling as they helped carry the family’s portion home. These moments remind us that humanitarian work is not only about delivering aid; it is about preserving hope.

What stood out most this year was not only the distribution itself but also the resilience of the Yemeni families who welcomed Eid with open hearts despite the hardships surrounding them. Their strength continues to inspire us, and their courage shapes our mission.

To every donor, supporter, and friend of Pure Hands Australia: Thank you. Your kindness travelled across continents and reached those who needed it the most. Together, we will continue striving to build a future in which no family faces Eid or any day without food, dignity, and hope.
